Snorkel Alaska in Ketchikan seeks one outgoing individual to take cruise ship passengers on guided snorkeling excursions in the last frontier.  All equipment and paid on the job training are provided with this fun full-time, seasonal position.

As a Snorkeling Tour Guide you will be responsible for giving snorkeling instructions, issuing equipment, assisting guests of all ages, shapes and sizes with donning of their equipment and entering the water from a rocky beach.  You will also provide safety briefings and guided marine life tours in addition to caring for our guests in the water.  Equipment maintenance and shop preparation are also part of the responsibilities.  All tours are team led with 2 guides in the water to a maximum of 10 guests.

This is a great opportunity to take a break from active SCUBA Instruction, DSD’s or retail sales.  You can expect to work 40 hours a week with two days off per week depending on the cruise ship schedule.  Pay starts at $18 per hour plus a $2 per hour end of season bonus if you complete the entire season.  Overtime and tips are in addition to the hourly wage.  Transportation to Ketchikan and housing are at your own expense.  We will do our best to assist you with finding suitable housing.

Snorkeling in Alaska?  It sounds crazy but water temperatures reach a surprising 65 degrees in mid-summer.  We provide you with two 7mm SCUBAPRO Everflex Steamer wetsuits, hood, boots, gloves and everything else you need to be comfortable in the water.  It’s a great tour with some amazing marine life.

To be considered for employment you must have current PADI Divemaster or Instructor ratings with either Vicencia & Buckley or D.AN. Liability Insurance.  You also must be able to commit to the entire season which runs from early May through the end of September.  Current CPR and First Aid / EFR certifications are also required.  You must also have a valid drivers license and clean driving record as you will be driving company vehicles daily.

Preference will be given to those who have previous cold-water diving and free diving experience.  You should have a strong background in customer service, but we will consider anyone who can learn quickly, is fun loving and can work hard as part of a team.  You need to be in excellent physical condition, as you will be free diving to depths of 30 or more feet repeatedly during the tour.  Smokers need not apply.

Ketchikan is a great place to spend the summer.  We are the southernmost city in Alaska located on an island in the Tongass National Forest.  We have a very mild summertime climate.  In your free time you can enjoy world class SCUBA diving, sea-kayaking, hiking and fishing for salmon and halibut.

There is potential for the right candidate to move into a salaried management position with housing and profit sharing.  You would be required to be in Ketchikan from April through September and free to travel and work remotely the remaining 6 months.

To apply please send a resume and a recent photo to snorkelalaska@gmail.com.  DO NOT APPLY UNLESS YOU CURRENTLY HAVE PROOF OF ELIGIBILITY TO WORK IN THE UNITED STATES.  We cannot obtain work permits for you.  You can learn more about the tour by checking out our website at www.snorkelalaska.com
